A completely original style
In all likelihood the building was designed to be an oratory and its construction was begun in the second half of the 1700s by the Nuns of Santa Teresa.
However, the Napoleonic confiscation of the convents’ assets, prevented their completion and consecration.


It is believed that its subsequent use as a dairy was due to the local people, who have always been jealous guardians of the ancient tradition of producing Parmigiano Reggiano DOP (Protected Designation of Origin).
It became the property of the Duchess Maria Luigia of Parma, wife of Napoleon and daughter of Emperor Francesco I. In 1858 the building underwent a renovation which recovered the body of the building and the neo-Gothic style of the facades, a figure of its present day originality.
